Our Face

ART4FREEDOM meaning: |
My ART4FREEDOM is about the fight for freedom during the 2019–20 Hong Kong protests. It portrays the pain that my hometown is suffering from. I often ask myself a question: where am I from? I have spent half of my life living in Hong Kong, yet my identity is so complicated that I don’t know what to call myself. Our previous generations did not have the chance to choose their own governors, yet they managed to transform their little town into this prosperous city. I don’t want to see their culture and efforts turn to dust. Hong Kong is currently going through a lot of changes and it is painful to witness it, when I can’t help a lot. People are constantly getting hurt while injustice still prevails. Moreover, a lot of our minds are gradually crippling because of this long period of fighting for freedom. Yet, the expression of this girl does not show any signs of giving up, even though she is in a desperate situation. People in Hong Kong do not fight because they have hope; they fight in order to see hope! I wish one day I can identify myself as a Hongkonger without fear and hesitation, and I believe this goes for a lot of us.
I drew this piece to show my respect for the brave heroes in Hong Kong and hope it can help others to understand the perspective of the people who fight for the freedom of our hometown. Freedom to Hong Kong. IAM4FREEDOM! |
