ART4FREEDOM meaning: |
My ART4FREEDOM is having two sisters, and one of them being a nurse, who's been working harder than ever since the COVID 19 came along. At the time, being mostly a digital artist and having lost my job, I chose to see the whole quarantine situation as a chance to learn traditional art skills and grow as an artist, hoping to make a living as an artist whenever the quarantine would end, and my sister, being the great person she is, recommended that I use my art to teach people how to stay safe from the virus, which is why I came up with the idea of reminding people the most basic way to stay safe, when they were panicking about toilet paper. Those are supposed to be her hands I painted.
I think the painting has an interesting relationship with freedom because I couldn't have done it if the circumstances hadn't given me the chance to learn traditional painting, so in a way the quarantine gave me a creative freedom, I hadn't had in a long time, but at the same time, it reminds me of how my sister keeps risking her life, fighting against an invisible threat that has already killed hundreds of thousands of people. In a way, the real message of the painting is that no one can be truly free until the quarantine ends, but it taught me in particular that adversity brings opportunity, and creativity can bring us some sort of freedom.
