ART4FREEDOM meaning: |
My ART4FREEDOM is about the unhappy side effect of the digital age: “cancel culture.” Anyone with an attitude of moral superiority and a Twitter account can try to shut down an event where opinions he or she dislikes are likely to be spoken. This infantile form of protest undermines free expression of ideas and legitimate debate. Intellectual intolerance and political dogmatism of this sort is usually is the hallmark of totalitarian regimes, however on college campuses, this behavior, antithetical to higher education, has taken hold in the student body. My ART4FREEDOM is titled CLAMPDOWN: The end of free speech in the cradle of the free speech movement. In protests unprecedented in scope during the 1964–65 academic year, students at the University of California, Berkeley insisted that the university administration lift the ban of on-campus political activities and acknowledge the students' right to free speech and academic freedom. In 2017, Berkeley students and outside agitators violently opposed those very bedrock freedoms of American liberty to an individual with whom they did not agree and who did not conform to the group-think that has taken hold in American institutions of higher learning. IAM4FREEDOM!
