My ART4FREEDOM is dedicated to the most controversial Bosnian singer, Božo Vre?o, who decided to defy all the cultural and social stigmas and do what he loves to do: sing and perform in a dress. Talking about freedom and the right to be yourself!
To understand the true value, you have to know the political and religious background of our rough and not very progressive country. Dressing like Božo in public and being openly homosexual is a VERY dangerous thing to do.
Also, being born into a family of orthodox monks on mother's side and a high status Islamic family on his father's side, he's a true spokesperson of love and peace, in a country, where those two religious groups continuously conflict.
Božo has many highly controversial tattoos. One of them is a sign of Allah on his chest, despite his orthodox name. Tattoos, especially anything related to religion are highly forbidden in Islam. Many people find it very offensive. It's just another target on Božo's back.
You can say anything about Božo, but you must admit he's a very brave individual, who doesn't back down in the face of a constant danger.
The pain and discomfort of my back injury almost prevented me to do what I love: illustrating. Seeing Božo dealing with an insane amount of hate, with all the odds against him, was very inspiring.
